The Flourish programme
Since Flourish was launched by Ramboll Group and the Ramboll Foundation in 2023, as Ramboll’s first group-wide corporate volunteering and social impact programme, more than 14 different partners across the world have been included and about 300 volunteers have spent over 11,000 hours providing guidance, mentoring, training, community services, technical assistance and much more – which had a positive impact on nature, biodiversity, species conservation, local communities, education, sanitation, and healthier more available water sources.
The Flourish programme aims to further strengthen Ramboll’s position as an active and recognised partner for sustainable change beyond our projects with clients and is driven in collaboration with the Ramboll Foundation which provides funding to the initiatives and non-profit partners in the programme. The Ramboll Group donates in-kind hours for employees to use their expertise to bring technical and social solutions addressing local specific needs, all within working hours.

Enabling employees’ sense of purpose
We are fortunate to have dedicated and engaged employees who wish to use their skills to help improve the lives of others and support their journey towards a more sustainable future. In Ramboll, hundreds of volunteers have supported local communities with engineering solutions and capacity building globally through the years. In addition, there are specific social impact activities that are driven by local offices around the world.
Collaborating with strategic non-profit partners
The partners involved in the Flourish programme, and their related initiatives, are carefully selected based on their scalability and strategic fit with the aim of the programme. We favour long-term and strategic partnerships, to continuously critically assess our impact and adapt our support as needed. We rely on our partners’ expertise on how to best serve the beneficiaries’ needs, taking into account local specificities.
WWF-India: Tiger conservation in the Godavari landscape
Through the Flourish programme, Ramboll and WWF-India have partnered to advance tiger conservation and community resilience in the Godavari River Landscape, Adilabad district, Telangana state. This region is ecologically rich, serving as a critical corridor for tigers and supporting diverse tribal communities such as the Gonds and Kolams, who share a deep, symbiotic relationship with the forest.
The project’s foundation is a participatory, community-driven approach. Ramboll and WWF-India conducted detailed village profiling across 30 forest-fringe villages, focusing on socio-economic dynamics, human-wildlife conflict, and cultural traditions. This groundwork enabled the development of tailored intervention strategies that respect local knowledge and foster co-ownership of conservation outcomes.
Key highlights include:
- Technology and data: over 2,100 camera traps were deployed, capturing more than two million images, and a satellite tracking collar was provided to the Telangana Forest Department to monitor tiger movements.
- Special Investigation Team (SIT) set up in, and establishment of, a joint Police and Forest task force to tackle wildlife crimes.
- Capacity building: more than 300 frontline staff and 45 police officers received specialised training, while 28 training sessions were conducted to build local capacity for conservation and conflict mitigation.
- Central Command Control Hub established for tiger and big cat monitoring, two Regional Tiger Monitoring cells in Tiger Reserves being established
- Community engagement: the team facilitated cattle-kill compensation payments, established a hotline for reporting incidents, and launched awareness campaigns. The first-ever Kawal Bird Festival was organized, engaging over 400 community members and scientists to celebrate local biodiversity.
- Wildlife-friendly agriculture: a framework for wildlife-friendly agriculture was developed, with pilots initiated to promote sustainable livelihoods and reduce pressure on forest resources.
- 24 Ramboll volunteers delivered almost 2,000 hours of volunteering.
Structural engineering for tiger conservation
A standout feature of Ramboll’s contribution is its engineering expertise in designing and reviewing wildlife crossings - overpasses and underpasses - on major highways (NH 363 and NH 61) within the tiger corridor. These structures are critical for maintaining habitat connectivity and reducing roadkill incidents, ensuring that tigers and other wildlife can safely traverse fragmented landscapes.
Ramboll’s involvement goes beyond technical design to includes on-the-ground assessment, collaboration with local authorities, and advocacy for improved monitoring and adaptive management. By integrating ecological considerations into infrastructure projects, Ramboll demonstrates how engineering solutions can directly support conservation goals and long-term biodiversity outcomes.
Delivering lasting impact
The WWF-India Flourish programme exemplifies Ramboll’s commitment to social value, combining technical expertise, community engagement, and cultural sensitivity to deliver lasting impact for people and nature. By fostering trust, building capacity, and supporting innovative solutions, the project is creating a blueprint for community-inclusive conservation that can be replicated across other landscapes.

“Working with Flourish was incredibly rewarding. I volunteered because I believe that diversity and inclusion are essential for innovation and growth. Would I volunteer again? Absolutely! The impact we can make collectively is immense.“
Engineers Without Borders: systems change and social value

Why should businesses care about a just transition?
Social impact
Is there really a need for a new term – the concept of a just transition – to describe sustainability? Yes, because otherwise we risk being blind to the downsides and hidden opportunities of the green transition, say Ramboll experts.
As more businesses create net-zero strategies and set science-based targets in line with a 1.5 degree pathway, it’s vital to ensure new strategies facilitate a just transition for the workforce and local communities. The alternative is a disorderly, unjust, and ultimately costly transition for businesses to navigate.
We put humans and stewardship of nature at the heart of our strategy and values.
